BMW iX1 Finally Made Its Way To India

Expanding its EV lineup in India, the German auto giant BMW has launched the iX1 electric SUV at Rs 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It is essentially an all-electric version of the X1 SUV with the same underpinnings, exterior design and interiors as its ICE counterpart.

Here’s a quick overview of this new electrified Bimmer: –

  • The BMW iX1 comes in a sole xDrive30 guise in India, which commands a premium of Rs 15.30 lakh over the top-spec X1.
  • Styling-wise, the new iX1 SUV resembles its ICE version, retaining elements like a large kidney grille finish in chrome (closed-off in the EV version), a chunkier front bumper with large air intakes, sleeker LED headlamps with two-piece LED DRLs, 18-inch M light alloy wheels, and  L-shaped LED tail lights.
  • Surprisingly, the Indian-spec iX1 doesn’t get blue-coloured accents on its bumpers and side skirts, which are present in its international counterpart.

  • Its safety kit comprises multiple airbags, rear parking camera, park assist, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, brake assist, and driver assist suite like front collision warning and cruise control with brake function.
BMW iX1 India price
  • Powering the BMW iX1 is a 66.4kWh battery pack linked to a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration that delivers a combined output of 313PS and 494Nm.
  • It provides a claimed range of up to 440 kilometers on a single charge.
  • Regarding charging, the new iX1 takes around 6.3 hours to juice up the battery full via an 11kW wallbox AC charger. On the other hand, a 130kW DC fast charge can power its battery pack from 10-80% in just 29 minutes.
  • In the Indian market, the BMW iX1 goes up against the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
