2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 250 (Prado) Globally Revealed

Japanese automaker Toyota has revealed its iconic Land Cruiser SUV in an all-new avatar called the ”Land Cruiser 250”. In certain countries, it will also be recognized as the “Land Cruiser Prado,” featuring some minor distinctions.

  • The all-new Land Cruiser Prado is based on a modular TNGA-F architecture that also underpins the recently debuted Lexus GX SUV. The chassis is claimed to be 50 per cent more rigid than its previous-gen model. On the other hand, the entire body-on-frame assembly is roughly 30 per cent more rigid. 
  • Against the measuring tape, the new Prado measures 4,920mm in length, 1,980mm in width and 1,870mm in height, making it 100mm longer, 95mm wider and 20mm taller than its predecessor.
  • At 2,850mm, its wheelbase has also been increased by 60mm.

  • Toyota states that the primary focus of the new Land Cruiser Prado is to offer improved on-road performance & refinement, along with incorporating the latest off-road technology. And so, the SUV now receives: –
    • Double wishbones on the front with twin-tube shocks
    • Disconnecting front anti-roll bar for maximum wheel articulation (Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism)
    • Multi-link rear suspension with coil springs
    • Electric power steering
    • Upgraded Multi-Terrain Monitoring System
    • Upgraded Multi-Terrain Select (Off-Road Modes)

Design and Features

  • In terms of design, the new Land Cruiser 250 borrows its design cues from all its previous generation versions, featuring its iconic boxy silhouette with a rectangular grille & circular headlamps upfront that will; remind you of the 70 Series.
  • Among other key exterior elements include sturdy wheel arches, raised hood, slim pillars, skid plates at both ends, chunky body cladding and 18-inch alloy wheels (20-inch optional) wrapped with all-season tyres.

  • Inside, it gets a rugged-looking dashboard design with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment taking centre stage. Its steering wheel, as well as the centre console panel, look chunky and get tons of physical buttons for all critical functions.
  • For creatures’ comfort, a plethora of new features have been introduced to increase its overall appeal. These include: –
    • A 12.3-inch digital driver’s display
    • A 12.3-inch floating infotainment with Toyota’s latest software
    • Connected car tech with OTA support
    • Satellite navigation
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
    • New gear selector and off-road toggle switch
    • Toyota Safety Sense (ADAS), which comprises dynamic cruise control, automatic high beam, blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, and much more.

Engine Options

Depending on the country, the Land Cruiser 250 (Prado) will be offered with multiple powertrain options. These include a 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol, an all-new 2.4-litre turbo-petrol hybrid, a 2.7-litre petrol, a 2.8-litre diesel mild hybrid, and a 2.8-litre diesel.

All of these engine options will be mated to an automatic transmission.

Will it make it to Indian shores?

Toyota is likely to bring the new Land Cruiser 250 (Prado) to Indian shores in the near future. However, the next big launch from Toyota is expected to be the Rumion SUV, which is essentially a rebadged Maruti Ertiga.
