Nissan X-trail, Qashqai and Juke Hybrid Break Cover In India

  • Nissan’s three global models showcased for the first time: X-Trail, Qashqai and Juke.
  • The X-Trail will be launched first.

Following the success of Magnite, Nissan is looking to expand its footprint in the Indian market. And in that process, the Japanese automaker has showcased its three global hybrid models in India, namely X-Trail, Qashqai and Juke, to study their feasibility and adaptability in the Indian market and differing terrains. Testing of the X-Trail SUV and Qashqai crossover has already begun on our soil. Once done, the X-Trail will be the first model to go on sale, followed by other models.

Nissan X-Trail

Nissan X-Trail India launch

With over six million takers globally, the Nissan X-Trail is currently in its 4th-generation avatar. Powering the X-Trail is Nissan’s second-generation e-POWER electric powertrain system, comprising a front-mounted e-motor and a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that acts as a generator to produce electricity that charges the high-voltage battery. It delivers a combined output of 204PS/330Nm. It also comes with the brand’s e-4 CORE all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that includes an additional motor that transmits power to the rear wheels of the car, producing a combined output of 213PS. Nissan claims the e-4 CORE system generates 10,000 times faster rear torque response than a mechanical AWD system and can make the 0-100kmph sprint in just 7 seconds.

Nissan also offers the X-Trail with the 163PS/300Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, mated to a 12V mild-hybrid system.

Globally, the Nissan X-Trail comes in both 5 and 7-seater configurations. Feature highlights include a 12.3-inch driver’s display, 12.3-inch infotainment with Nissan Connect navigation system & voice recognition, a 10.8-inch head-up display, Bose Premium Sound System, a 360-degree camera and an ADAS safety suite.

Nissan Qashqai

Nissan Qashqai India launch

Based on Nissan’s CMF-C architecture, the quirky-styled Qashqai is powered by a mild-hybrid 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, available in two states of tunes: 140PS/240Nm and 158PS/260Nm. Transmission options include 6-speed manual transmission and Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT).  Besides, the 190PS/330Nm 1.5-litre e-Power strong-hybrid powertrain is also on offer.

If launched in India, it will rival the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Citroen C5 Aircross.

Nissan Juke

Nissan has showcased the strong-hybrid version of the Juke mid-size crossover (Grand Vitara rival) in India that gets a 94PS 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 49PS electric motor. Globally, it also comes with a 114PS/200Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
