Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Axed For India

On the heels of Maruti Suzuki’s announcement of the Grand Vitara’s price, the carmaker has removed the S-Cross from its official NEXA website.

Launched in 2015, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross was a monocoque-based crossover. It was the first car to be sold through Maruti’s premium Nexa dealerships. Initially, it was offered with two Fiat-sourced diesel engines: 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre units, with the latter being the fanatic’s choice. However, its styling was something that many people did not like. The brand rectified that with a facelift update in 2017 to boost the S-Cross’ sales in India. Along with design changes, the crossover also received additional features and new SHVS mild-hybrid tech for the 1.3-litre engine. And due to dismal sales of the more powerful 1.6-litre variants, the facelifted S-Cross continued with the 1.3-litre turbo-diesel engine only.

Later in 2020 during the switch to BS6 emission norms, a 1.5-litre petrol engine was introduced in place of the tiny oil burner, and several new features were added. Nevertheless, with the growing competition, the S-Cross’s demand started declining, and despite receiving the new generation update on the global market in 2021, the company did not update its Indian-spec version, and now it has finally been discontinued after the launch of the Grand Vitara.
