Continental has inaugurated its new greenfield surface solutions plant in Pune. Spread over 149,000 square feet, this new facility will manufacture premium surface materials for car interiors and two-wheeler seats, largely catering to the Indian market.
This production plant has been set up with investments of approximately Rs 200 Crore and is Continental’s 16th surface solutions plant globally that has an initial annual capacity of 5 million square meters of surface material that can be further scaled up to 10 million square meters.
Continental will produce primarily interior surface materials like Acella Eco and Acella Lux with the assurance of state-of-the-art quality, while the eco-friendly foam foil Yorn and Yorn Light materials will also be produced in the near future.
Commenting on this occasion, Prashanth Doreswamy, President and CEO, Continental India said, “Continental has been growing steadily in the Indian market. We have now invested in Pune, a significant and long-established hub for the automotive industry, and we aim to be our customers’ first partner of choice for surface solutions. With this, we reaffirm our commitment to the local market, aligned to our ‘in the market, for the market’ philosophy.”

The press statement released by Continental also reveals that sustainability will be a high priority for this new surface solutions plant. They will adopt energy efficiency measures, an ergonomic work atmosphere, 100 percent sewage and wastewater treatment as well, exhaust air treatment of all processes, and the use of energy from renewable sources to reduce environmental impact and carbon footprint.
