Ola S1 Electric Scooter Production Ramped Up; Waiting Period To Go Down

Highlights: –

  • Old Electric delivered over 4,000 units of the S1 electric scooter in December 2021.

  • The manufacturer has ramped up production to reduce the waiting period.

  •  Second round of sales will begin soon.

  • The prices of the Ola S1 start from Rs 1 lakh and go up to Rs 1.30 lakh for its top-spec S1 Pro variant.

Ola Electric's CEO Bhavesh Aggarwal has confirmed that the EV maker has increased the production of the S1 electric scooter to 1,000 units per day in order to meet the high demand. He has also confirmed that the sale window for the second lot will open soon.

While ramping up production is the right step, the brand is still far behind its claimed annual capacity of 2 million units. However, customers can now expect faster doorstep deliveries. However, it is worth noting that the brand does not have any physical outlets and has come up with a unique ‘Direct-to-customer’ model. Ola has also started setting up a charging network (Hyperchargers) across the nation.

As per our recent conversation with the executives of Ola Electric, the company has delivered over 4,000 units so far. However, deliveries of some units are stuck due to the delayed registration process from RTO. However, they have asserted that many RTOs are coping up with them and trying their best to complete the registration process at the earliest.

The Ola S1 electric scooter makes a value-for-money proposition with its affordable pricing and a long list of features. Onboard, you get features such as an all-LED lighting system with Take Me Home headlight function, a 7-inch TFT display with inbuilt navigation, smartphone connectivity, keyless ignition, proximity lock/unlock as well as remote lock/unlock, three riding modes – Normal, Sports, and Hyper (exclusive for S1 Pro), cruise control, hill hold, voice assistant, and much more. However, some of the features will be activated by June 2022 via OTA updates.

The prices of the Ola S1 start at Rs 1 lakh and go up to Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom India, including FAME II subsidy), respectively. The cost further drops once you opt all the subsidies and incentives provided by various state governments.
