2022 Mahindra Scorpio To Get Captain Seats And Off-Roading Modes

The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio has been recently spotted testing, and this time around, we got to see the captain seats and a rotary dial for off-roading modes. Keen eyes could also notice the ‘4H’ and ‘4L’ buttons below the knob, indicating that it will regain its 4×4 drivetrain setup.

Similar to the XUV700, the infotainment is likely to get Android Auto and Apple Carplay smartphone integration support, connected car technology, and Alexa AI assistance. Besides, the earlier spy shots have already confirmed the presence of a single-pane electric sunroof, roof-mounted speakers (probably Sony sound system), and 360-degree camera setup. It is expected to come in both 6-and 7-seater layouts with the former getting captain seats for middle-row occupants.

Under the hood, the new Mahindra Scorpio is likely to employ XUV700's 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, albeit in a detuned state. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. A rear-wheel drivetrain is expected to be standard, while the 4X4 drivetrain could be restricted to select variants.

Earlier, the next-gen Scorpio was supposed to come by the end of the current year, but now Mahindra is expected to unveil the new Scorpio in early 2022. Its prices are likely to start from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the current-gen Scorpio is available from Rs 12.91 lakh to Rs 17.64 lakh (ex-showroom).

Being a ladder-frame chassis SUV, the Scorpio has no direct competitors in the Indian market, however, pricing-wise it goes up against 5-seater monocoque SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, and Volkswagen Taigun.
