Deliveries Of MG Astor Affected By Semiconductor Chip Shortage; Brand Assured Price Protection For Initial Batch

Deliveries of MG's latest SUV, the Astor, could be affected by global semiconductor shortage, said Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer of MG Motor India. The brand is aiming to deliver all the units of the first batch (5,000 units) before the end of 2021. Nevertheless, Gaurav Gupta has assured that the customers of the first batch will get price protection if deliveries of their pre-booked vehicles get delayed.

Sharing a video from MG's social media handle, Gaurav Gupta has stated that "Hello MG Astor customers, thank you so much for your overwhelming response. We are truly humbled by your faith and trust in the MG brand, and we thank you for your support. And now, when the ball is in our court to produce and have your favourite MG Astor with you at the earliest. But I must share with you at this point in time that we are all facing a situation very unprecedented. The supply of chips and semiconductors are very uncertain and very dynamic. In fact, sometimes our suppliers, whether it is global or European suppliers, have a weekly schedule which also gets altered. And that makes us change our production plans. We have also seen very high demand for certain variants, which is different from the original plan, for example, our customers of Style and Super. But we have recalibrated our entire work at the backend to be able to support our customer base. I can assure you despite these challenges we are trying our level best to produce the cars at the earliest. We do feel that the worst is behind us and things should improve as we proceed further. Our team is committed to really serving you and you can see your delivery schedule on the MyMG app, on our website, or by calling us at our calling centres or even at our dealerships."

For those who aren't aware, the 5-seater MG Astor SUV was launched on October 11th, 2021. It comes in five variants – Style, Super, Smart, Sharp, and Savvy, across two engine options – 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (110PS/144Nm) and 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol (140PS/230Nm). While the latter only comes with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, the former gets both 6-speed manual and 8-step CVT automatic options.

The most notable highlight of the MG Astor is the segment-first level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which include active safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention and Speed Assist, etc.

As of now, MG Motors is accepting bookings of the Astor for deliveries in 2022. And so, you might have to wait for up to four months to get your new Astor
