MG Commenced Deliveries Of The Astor; Waiting Period Around Four Months For New Bookings

MG Motor India has commenced deliveries of the recently launched Astor SUV on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras and handed over 500 vehicles to the customers. Despite the intense shortage of semiconductor chips, the company is planning to deliver up to 5,000 units by the end of 2021.

For those who aren't aware, the first batch of 5,000 units of the MG Astor was sold out within 20 minutes of opening the bookings. That said, the company is accepting bookings for delivery in 2022. And so, you might have to wait for up to four months to get your new Astor. Residents of Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Kolkata will face the highest waiting period, whereas, in most other metropolitan cities, the Astor commands a waiting period of up to three months​​​​​​. 

To jog your memory, the MG Astor is India’s first SUV with a personal AI assistant and first-in-segment Autonomous (Level 2) technology. Other creature comforts include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with i-SMART connected car technology, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital driver’s display, powered driver’s seat, auto climate control with rear AC vents, a panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brakes, etc. Passengers’ safety is ensured by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, front & rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, and electronic stability control.

It's available in two engine options – a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol with a 6-speed torque converter automatic churning 140PS and a whopping 220Nm, and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) producing 110PS and 144Nm.

The Astor is offered in five broad trims: Style, Super, Smart, Sharp, and Savvy, which are priced from Rs 9.78 lakh to Rs 17.38 lakh (ex-showroom). It goes up against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti S-Cross, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and select variants of Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Harrier.
