MG Hector Gets A New Shine Variant At Rs 14.52 Lakh

Morris Garages has launched a new variant of the Hector mid-size SUV called 'Shine'. Priced from Rs 14.52 lakh (ex-showroom), MG has positioned it between the Super and Smart trims. Let’s take a look at how does it fares against other variants of the SUV: –

The all-new Shine trim is Rs 1.3 lakh more affordable than the next-in-line Smart variant. However, it commands a premium of up to Rs 50,000 over the second-from-base Super variant. For this added premium, it gets a host of additional features over the Super variant that includes an electric sunroof, chrome-finished door handles, keyless entry using the smart key, push-button start/stop, electric parking brake with auto-hold, and a telescopic adjustment function for the steering wheel, etc. However, it is important to note that all these added features (except for the sunroof) are exclusive to the petrol-CVT powertrain. Also, its sunroof is a single-pane assembly rather than a panoramic unit from the top-spec Sharp trim.

Besides, MG has also introduced a new Havana Grey paint scheme for all the variants save for the base-spec Style. Not only this, but MG has also offered a dedicated accessories package for the Hector Shine, comprising leather seat covers, rear window sunshades, leather wrap for the steering wheel, a wireless phone charger, an air purifier, and 3D floor mats.

As evident from the above table, the Hector Shine has two engines on offer: a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol (143PS/250Nm) and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (170PS/350Nm). Both mills get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, while the petrol motor can also be paired with an optional 8-speed CVT automatic unit. However, it misses out on the petrol-hybrid powertrain and dual-clutch automatic transmission options (DCT) available with higher trims.

With the introduction of the Shine variant, the MG Hector has become more competitive against the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, and the higher-spec variants of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq.

In other updates, the MG India is gearing up for its next launch that is expected to be the Astor SUV. It is actually a petrol-powered version of the ZS SUV, in its facelifted form.
