Mass Production Of Hyundai Casper (AX1) Micro-SUV To Commence On September 15

Hyundai Motors will begin the mass-production of its upcoming micro-SUV, the Casper (codenamed AX1), on September 15 in South Korea. It will be revealed in its homeland first before its expected launch in India by early 2022.

The Hyundai Casper has been spied testing numerous times. Revealed by the earlier spy shots, it will get a circular-shaped headlamps setup positioned on the front bumper, extremely racked windshield, upright stance with crossover-like silhouette, C-pillar mounted door handles, quirky-designed 17-inch alloy wheels, squared-out wheel arches, sturdy roof rails, LED taillamps with triangular-shaped elements, and bumper-mounted round turn signals, giving it a different personality from all other Hyundai offerings.

Inside, the upcoming Hyundai SUV will get a dual-tone interior with white leather upholstery. It is expected to come in a 4-seater configuration (at least in Korea), featuring 50:50 split seats in the second row. It is expected to come packed with a large touchscreen infotainment system, BlueLink connected car technology, a wireless phone charger, steering-mounted audio controls, auto climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, cruise control, LED lighting, and a rear parking camera.

In India, the Hyundai micro-SUV in all likelihood could borrow its mechanicals from the Grand i10 Nios. That said, it is expected to get 83PS 1.2-liter petrol, 75PS 1.2-litre diesel, and 100PS 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine options. Transmission options are expected to include both manual and AMT units. It could also receive Hyundai's trademarked intelligent-manual transmission (iMT).

Hyundai Casper Indian launch timeline

The Hyundai Casper will be positioned below the Hyundai Venue and will lock horns with the Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, and the upcoming Tata HBX. Its prices are assumed to start from around Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom).
