Volkswagen Taigun Production To Start On August 18

Revealed in a near-production avatar at the 2020 Auto Expo, the long-awaited Volkswagen Taigun is all set to go into production on August 18, 2021. It will be the VW's first heavily localised compact SUV, which will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Maruti S-Cross, Renault Duster, and its recently launched sibling Skoda Kushaq. Its launch could take place by August-end or in the early days of September 2021.

Similar to the Skoda Kushaq, the Volkswagen Taigun will also be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform. It will also get the same powertrain options and features as the Kushaq but carries a completely different design philosophy for a distinct appeal. In fact, it shares its design cues with global-spec T-ROC and the Tiguan mid-sized SUV. It features a Tiguan-like front end with heavy-chrome inserts, LED projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels, connected LED tail lamps, and a prominent black cladding along the bottom edge of the SUV. Click here for more design details.

Dimension-wise, the Taigun will be 4,221mm long, 1,760mm wide, 1,612mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,651mm.

Inside, the Taigun features a 10-inch dashboard integrated touchscreen infotainment system (instead of the free-standing unit as Kushaq), connected car technology, Apple Carplay & Android Auto smartphone connectivity support, digital driver's display (missing in the Kushaq), auto AC with touch-based control panel, rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad, electric sunroof, type C charging points, a 6-speaker sound system, keyless entry with engine start-stop button, and many more. Passenger safety should be covered by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a rearview camera, and an electronic stability program.

new updates for Volkswagen Taigun

Powering the VW Taigun SUV will be two turbocharged petrol engines: a 1.0-litre TSI (115PS/175Nm) and a 1.5-litre TSI EVO (150PS/250Nm) with cylinder deactivation technology. Both motors will get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, along with an individual automatic option – a 6-speed torque converter for the 1.0-litre unit and a 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) unit for the 1.5-litre engine.

Bookings for this upcoming German compact SUV have already been commenced unofficially at a token amount of Rs 10,000. Except it to be priced between Rs 9.5 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
