Renault Triber Scored 4 Star Safety Rating In Global NCAP Crash Test

The Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) has recently crash-tested the made-in-India Renault Triber 7-seater MPV under its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign, and it has received an impressive 4-star safety rating for adult occupants & 3-stars for child occupants.

Four star adult crash test performance for Renault Triber

As per the reports, the Renault Triber gets 11.62 points out of 17 for adult occupants' safety and 27 points out of 49 for child occupants. The crash test was conducted at 64kmph on the variant that comes with basic safety features like two airbags, a seatbelt reminder for front seats, and ABS.

The Global NCAP rated the protection offered to the head & neck of the driver and front passenger as ‘good’. Chest protection for the driver was rated as 'marginal', whereas the front passenger’s chest showed 'adequate' protection. The protection offered to the front passenger’s knees was rated as ‘good’, but for the driver, the knee protection was 'marginal' as they could hit with dangerous structures behind the dashboard. On the other hand, both the driver and passenger tibias showed adequate protection.

In the child occupant protection category, the Triber didn't score well as it misses out on ISOFIX anchorages. The NCAP rated the chest protection as 'average' and the head protection as 'low' for the 3-year-old child dummy, installed forward-facing with adult seatbelts. The conducting body has stated that there was an excessive forward movement during the impact. However, the 18-month-old rearward facing CRS provided full protection to the child occupant.

It is also important to note that the footwell area of the Triber was rated as stable; however, the bodyshell was rated as unstable, and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings.

In the Indian market, the Triber is positioned against the Datsun Go+ (Rs 4.25 – 6.99 lakh). It could also be seen as a 7-seater alternative to mid-size hatchbacks such as the Maruti Swift (Rs 5.73 – 8.41 lakh), Hyundai Grand i10 Nios (Rs 5.23 – 8.45 lakh), and Ford Figo (Rs 5.82 – 8.37 lakh).
