Second-Generation Mercedes Benz GLA Launched At Rs 42.10 lakh

The second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA crossover has finally been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 42.10 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). It was supposed to be launched earlier this year; however, the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic delayed its arrival to some extent. It is available in four variants. Here’s the detailed price list: –

As the above table indicates, the prices are introductory and are set to increase by Rs 1.5 lakh from July 1, 2021.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA – Design 

The all-new Mercedes GLA gets a more muscular and SUV-like profile compared to the outgoing model which used to look like a burly hatchback. It shares its design cues with the Mercedes GLC & Mercedes GLE. It features a refreshed sportier grille, a sculpted bonnet, and new LED headlamps at the front. Compared to the previous model, the 2021 GLA gets smoother lines and curves; however, it still maintains its sturdy appearance thanks to the aggressively styled new bumpers, squared-out wheel arches with black body cladding, and heavy haunches above the rear wheels. At the back, the SUV gets refreshed split LED tail lamp setup and a redesigned bumper. 

The AMG variants, on the other hand, comes with a few distinct elements from the regular model that gives it a sportier look. These mainly include the Panamericana grille with prominent vertical slats, larger alloy wheels, larger tailpipes, a lowered ride height, AMG suspensions, and obviously the AMG badges at the rear.

Apart from the aforementioned changes, the new GLA has also grown in size. It is 1611mm tall (+104mm than before), 1,834mm wide (+30mm), and has a wheelbase of 2,729mm (+30mm). This has resulted in more cabin space. However, at 4,410mm, it is 14mm shorter than before.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA – Interior & Features

Inside, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA gets a new dashboard similar to the A-Class Limousine, comprising turbine-like AC vents, and a dual-screen setup for the MBUX infotainment system (10.25-inch) & digital instrument display (10.25-inch). 

The key features of the 2021 GLA include a wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto smartphone integration support, connected car tech with ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice prompt, a wireless charger, powered front seats with memory and Merc-speak function, 64 color ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and many more. Safety is covered by seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, an active bonnet for pedestrian safety, active brake assist, and attention assist.

Similar to the exterior, the AMG version proceeds to get sporty touches inside the cabin too. The highlights include a black interior, a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, sports seats, Burmester audio system, and Keyless-Go Comfort Package.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA – Powertrain

The new Mercedes-Benz GLA is offered with three engine options – a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 2.0-litre VGT diesel. Here are the variant availability and engine specifications: –
