Simple Energy, a Bangalore-based EV start-up is all set to launch its first e-scooter called Mark 2 (codename) on the upcoming Independence day i.e. 15th August 2021. Earlier, it was expected to hit the showrooms in the first half of 2021, but the launch has been delayed due to rising numbers of COVID19 cases in our country.
Here's all you need to about the upcoming Mark 2 electric scooter: –
– The production-spec Mark 2 will be based on the Mark 1 prototype, which was unveiled last year. It will be manufactured in Bengaluru, where SE's R&D centre is also located.
– Its maiden manufacturing facility has a claimed production capacity of 50,000 units per year.
– The Mark 2 is just a code name of Simple Energy's debut product, and the final name could be different.
– Initially, it will be offered only in India's Silicon Valley, followed by Hyderabad, Chennai, and other major cities of the nation.
– It is likely to be priced between Rs 1.10-1.20 lakh (ex-showroom).
– Mark 2 scooter will feature a futuristic design. Interestingly, it has been conceptualised on French giant, Dassault System's 3DExperience platform. The brand claims that it helped them to streamline their design process as per the production & manufacturing requirements, thereby making it a cost-effective process.
– Powering the Mark 2 will be a 4kWh lithium-ion removable battery that is claimed to offer a range of 240km on a single charge (in Eco mode) and a top speed of 100kmph. It can sprint from standstill to 50kmph in just 3.6 seconds. Compared to its core rival, Ather 450X, the Mark 2 seems quite faster and efficient. For reference, the Ather 450X’s claimed real-world range stands at 85km in Eco mode and it took 3.41 seconds to accelerate from 0-40kmph.
– The motor specifications of the Mark 2 are yet to be revealed, it is likely to produce 9.5PS of power and 72Nm of torque.
– Some of the key features of Simple Energy's Mark 2 will include an all-LED lighting system, a large touchscreen display with 4G connectivity, on-board navigation & Bluetooth connectivity support, multiple driving modes, and a removable battery, etc. The brand also claims that the e-scooter will have the largest boot space amongst the e-scooters developed in India.
– Once launched, the Mark 2 will come as a sporty & fresh alternative to the likes of Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak Electric, and TVS iQube Electric.
In the other news, Ola and Hero MotoCorp are also gearing up to launch their respective long-range e-Scooters in India.
