Suzuki Gixxer 250 and SF 250 Recalled Over Vibration Issues

Suzuki Motorcycle India has recalled 199 units of Gixxer 250 naked streetfighter and Gixxer SF 250 fully-faired quarter-liter motorcycles over engine vibration issue. As per the reports, these bikes were manufactured between 12th August 2019 and 21st March 2021. The brand will soon start contacting the owners of affected units and will schedule an appointment for the inspection. And, if needed, the repair will be done free of cost.

In the description of the potential defect, the brand has stated that the excess vibration is due to the improper positioning of the balancer drive gear in the engine. The brand further stated that the template for marking of matching positions for the balancer drive gear was not used by the supervisor. Consequently, the markings were misaligned, and thus the wrong position of the balancer drive gear causing extreme shaking effects. However, the brand has cleared that the issue will not affect the functioning of the motorcycle. But in the worst scenario, the tail lamp mounting lugs could break due to the increased vibrations.

For the people not in know, both Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 are powered by a 249cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine that puts out 26.5PS of max power at 9,300rpm and 22.2Nm at 7,300rpm. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed transmission.

Currently, the Gixxer 250 is priced at Rs 1.68 lakh (ex-showroom) and rivals the Yamaha FZ25, KTM 250 Duke, Husqvarna Svartpilen 250, and Bajaj Dominar 250. On the other hand, its fully-faired iteration retails between Rs 1.78 – 1.79 lakh (ex-showroom). In this price range, there aren’t any direct rivals to the Suzuki Gixxer 250 SF.
