Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift Launch Pushed To June 2021

German carmaker Volkswagen was expected to launch the facelifted iteration of the 5-seater Tiguan SUV in early May 2021. However, the launch has now be delayed to June 2021 due to the ongoing Covid-19 situations in the country.

For the people not in know, Volkswagen Tiguan was discontinued last year as the brand chose to move with petrol powertrain only in the BS6 era. Hence, the 2021 Tiguan will only be offered with a new 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, replacing the older 2.0-litre diesel unit. This new gasoline mill is good enough for developing 190PS of max power and 320Nm of peak torque. The power will be sent to all the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission in conjunction with VW’s 4MOTION AWD system.

Not only the powertrain, but the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan will also get an updated styling as well as new features. Starting with the front, the SUV will sport a new three-slate chrome grille that mixes in the all-new VW’s IQ Matrix LED headlamps that dynamically adapts light distribution. The other notable changes on the outer profile include revised front & rear bumpers, redesigned fog lamp housing, new 18-inch alloy wheels, refreshed LED tail lamps, etc.

Inside the cabin, it largely retains a similar layout as its pre-facelift model with some minor updates. It gets a new digital driver’s display, a redesigned steering wheel, a touch-based climate control panel, and a 30-color ambient lighting system (instead of one in the pre-facelift model).

The other notable features of the Tiguan facelift SUV include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, connected car tech, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, leather seats, 3-zone climate control, cruise control, powered tailgate, and many more. Safety will be covered by six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), hill start and descent assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, etc.

In the premium mid-size SUV segment, the Volkswagen Tiguan facelift will face direct competition with the newly launched Citroen C5 Aircross. However, the top-of-the-line variants of Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson SUVs could also be considered as their cheaper alternatives. As for pricing, expect the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan to carry a significant premium over its older price range of Rs 28.05 lakh to 31.44 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).
