Kia Carnival-Rivalling Hyundai Staria Premium MPV Revealed

Korean carmaker Hyundai Motors has officially revealed more details about its upcoming Staria premium MPV. While we have already discussed its design details, today we will focus on the technical aspects of the Kia Carnival's sibling rivalry.

– Variants: – The Hyundai Staria will be available in two variants: Standard and Premium, and it is likely to go on sale in the second half of 2021.

– Design & Dimensions: – The Staria has a typical old-school van-like silhouette, still, it looks quite futuristic due to its unique styling and various distinct design elements from any other Hyundai vehicle. The brand claims that its design is inspired by a spaceship. In terms of dimensions, it is 5,253mm long, 1,997mm wide, and 1,990mm tall. Its wheelbase stands at 3,273mm. Compared to the next-generation Kia Carnival, it is 98mm long, whereas the distance between the front and rear wheels is 183mm higher. It also offers up to 5,000 litres of cargo space (depending on the seating configuration)

– Interior: – The interior of the Hyundai Staria is designed in such a way that it can prioritise the cabin space. It will be available in three colour options: all-black, black-beige, and black-blue. The top-spec Premium trim will also get two additional colour choices: grey-brown and grey-light grey.

– Seating Configurations: – The Staria will be offered in three seating configurations – 7-, 9- and 11-seat layouts.

  • The 7-seater Premium variant will get lounge seats in the second row with a one-touch relaxation mode that reclines the seat automatically. Further, its rear seats adjust automatically based on your body weight for the perfect seating position.

  • The 9-seater model will get two-two captain seats in the 2nd and 3rd row, with second-row seats will be getting a 180-degree swivel function to face the passengers in the third row. This will help conduct a meeting on the move.
  • The 11-seater Staria will be available in Korea only. This variant uses a 3+3+2+3 layout.

– Key Features: – Hyundai has loaded the Staria with a host of premium features such as an LED lighting system, pixel-style tail lamps, 18-inch alloys, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 64-colour ambient lighting, a Bose sound system, a digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof with large side window glasses, USB ports for charging, in-cabin speakers to communicate with the rear seat occupants, powered sliding doors, and more.

The safety quotient, on the other hand, is taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, electronic stability control (ESC), forward collision avoidance assist, and blind-spot collision avoidance assist.

– Powertrain: – Under the hood, the Staria will borrow its powertrains from the next-gen Kia Carnival, which includes a 2.2-litre diesel (177PS/431Nm) and 3.5-litre petrol (272PS/331Nm) engines. While both engines will get an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard, the diesel can also be had with a 6-speed manual gearbox as well.

– Will Hyundai launch it in India? – Hyundai has already trademarked the Staria moniker in India, and its cousin Kia Carnival is performing decently in terms of sales, hence, we believe Hyundai could evaluate the Staria for our market.
