2021 MG Hector To Get New Petrol CVT Automatic Variants Tomorrow

MG Motors has recently given the Hector SUV a facelift upgrade, and now the carmaker is going to give it yet another update in the form of an all-new petrol CVT automatic trim, which will be launched tomorrow i.e., on 11th February 2021. With this, the Hector will become the first mid-sized SUV in its segment to offer two different automatic transmissions option.

Currently, MG offers the Hector SUV in two engine chocies: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol (143PS/250Nm) and 2.0-litre turbo diesel (170PS/350Nm) units. The petrol mill can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a DCT automatic transmission, whereas the diesel engine only gets the manual gearbox as standard. Selected petrol-manual variants, on the other hand, also get the choice of a 48V mild-hybrid system for added fuel efficiency. With the introduction of the CVT automatic gearbox, the brand will not discontinue the DCT option, albeit CVT will be sold alongside the DCT variants. For the people not in know, the Hector-based Wuling Almaz SUV sold in Indonesia is already available with a CVT gearbox.

As of now, only the top-of-the-line Smart and Sharp variants are being offered with the DCT gearbox options, which are priced at Rs 16.42 lakh, and Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. According to the reports, MG will follow the same path for the CVT transmission as well. However, the Petrol-CVT variants will be more affordable than the DCT trims and will offer better mileage.

The MG Hector is priced between Rs 12.90 lakh and Rs 18.43 lakh (ex-showroom), and rivals the Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Mahindra XUV500 in the Indian market. The introduction of CVT will strengthen its competition against the Creta and Seltos, as both these cars also come with DCT & CVT options.
