Renault Kiger To Launch On February 15, Series Production Also Begun

Series production of the upcoming Renault Kiger sub-4m SUV has begun at its Chennai-based manufacturing facility before its launch on 15th February 2021. The official pre-launch booking of the car is yet to begin, but some dealerships across the country have already started taking bookings unofficially.

The production-spec Renault Kiger was unveiled on 28th January 2021 and it retains almost 80% of the design cues from the concept model. Its front facia features a sculpted bonnet, and familiar Renault winged grille, flanked by the sleek LED daytime running lamps (DRLs). The X-pattern on the front bumper with tri-octa projector LED headlamps units, give it an aggressive and muscular look, whereas, on the sides, Renault has tried to give it a bit of a coupe-ish look by blending its sloping roofline into the raked rear windscreen.

As far as the underpinning is concerned, the Kiger is based on Renault-Nissan’s CMF-A+ platform that also holds up the Renault Triber and Nissan Magnite. However, not only the underpinning but the upcoming Kiger also shares its features list and powertrains with it's Nissan counterpart. For starters, the Renault Kiger will also be a petrol-only offering with a similar set of engine option, including 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated (NA) petrol and 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol units. The power figures are also identical to the Nissan Magnite: 72PS/96Nm for naturally aspirated and 100PS/upto 160Nm for turbo motor. What distinct between both the SUV is the AMT (automated manual transmission) option available with NA mill, whereas the Nissan Magnite's non-turbo unit only gets a 5-speed manual gearbox.

In terms of cabin, Renault has equipped the Kiger with many premium features such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, steering-mounted audio controls, drive modes, wireless charging, an air purifier, auto climate control with rear AC vents, tyre pressure monitoring control (TPMS), 4 airbags, vehicle dynamic control, hill start assist, and many more.

Expect the Renault Kiger to fall in the price range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian market, the Kiger will fight it out with the likes of Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Ford EcoSport, and Honda WR-V.
