The Most Affordable Triumph Tiger Launched In India At Rs 11.95 Lakh

British bikemaker Triumph has finally launched the much-anticipated Tiger 850 Sport in the Indian market at Rs 11.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). At this price point, it is the most affordable Triumph adventure motorcycle, undercutting the Tiger 900 GT by almost Rs 1.8 lakh.

Triumph Tiger 850 Sport – Design & Features

Based on the Tiger 900, it doesn't look different than its donor model. It features the same design cues with notable styling elements such as an all-LED headlight with signature Tiger LED DRLs, large & easy-to-adjust windscreen and aero deflectors positioned cleverly at the top, giving the bike an aggressive look.

The graphics of the bike are all-new, and it will be offered in two colours option: Graphite Diablo Red and Graphite Caspian Blue.

In terms of features, Triumph has equipped the Tiger 850 Sport with a 5-inch high-contrast TFT display against to the Tiger 900’s 7-inch screen. It shows all the necessary riding stats such as speed, odometer & tachometer readings, fuel level, engine temperature, fuel efficiency, riding mode, ABS & traction control indication, etc. It also gets adjustable seat (height varying from 810mm to 830mm), dual-channel ABS, Ride-by-wire throttle with switchable traction control and two riding modes – Rain and Road, which alters the accelerator response & traction control system to adapt the riding requirements. However, it misses out on cornering ABS, cruise control, heated grips, and IMU.

The 20-litre fuel tank capacity of the Tiger 850 is similar to the Tiger 900 and the brand claims a fuel efficiency of 19kmpl with this new off-road biased machine. Hence, its total tank range should be around 380km.

Powertrain

The Tiger 850 Sport uses the same 888cc triple-cylinder, liquid-cooled SI engine as the 900 but in a detuned state. It generates 85PS at 8,500rpm and 82Nm at 7,250rpm, which is 10PS and 5Nm less than the Tiger 900 (95PS at 8,750rpm and 87Nm at 7,250rpm). It also features T-plane crank and 1-3-2 firing order, which ensures good tractability at low engine RPMs.

Triumph has paired this engine with a 6-speed gearbox and also offers a slip & assist clutch as standard, and a quick shifter as an accessory.

Underpinnings & Other Specifications

This affordable Triumph ADV sports the same chassis and wheels as the Tiger 900 i.e it is also based on the Tubular steel frame with twin-sided, cast aluminium swingarm. For suspensions duties, Triumph has equipped the bike with a 45mm Marzocchi USD fork at the front with 180mm travel and a manual preload-adjustable gas-charged monoshock at the rear with 170mm travel.

The 850 Sport rides on the 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel wrapped with 100/90-19 and 150/70R17 section Michelin Anakee Adventure tyres respectively. A dual 320mm disc at the front with Brembo Stylema callipers and a 255mm rear discs bring the bike to the halt, whereas the dual-channel Antilock Braking System ensures your safety by preventing the bike from skidding in hard barking conditions. The kerb weight of the Tiger 850 is around 192kg (dry), which is 2kg less than the Tiger 900.

Rivals

In the Indian market, the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport competes with the BMW F 900 XR (Rs 10.95 – 12.40 lakh) and Ducati Multistrada 950 (Rs 15.49 lakh).
