Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio Likely To Get An Sunroof

Mahindra is gearing up to launch the next-generation versions of Scorpio and XUV500. Both these SUVs have been spied several times. But in the recently spied shots (probably in its production-spec form), giving us a fairer idea of what we can expect from the upcoming Scorpio.

Though the testing mule was heavily camouflaged, it revealed a few bits about its design and features. For the starters, the all-new Mahindra Scorpio seems longer and wider than the ongoing model. However, its boxy silhouette has been retained. Upfront, it features a new vertical slats grille, similar to the Alturas G4. It will also get newly designed alloy wheels and a dual-barrel LED headlamp along with LED DRLs and LED taillamps. The 2021 Scorpio will continue to serve as the body-on-frame SUV.

Like the exterior, the interior of the new Scorpio will also receive a complete makeover with a host of new features, which mainly includes a large touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology, a new three-spoke steering wheel, multiple airbags, and many other modern electronics add-ons. A closer look at the cabin also reveals that the upcoming Scorpio will also get a sunroof.

Under the hood, the 2021 Mahindra Scorpio is expected to offer 150PS 2.0-liter mStallion turbo-petrol and the 130PS 2.2-litre mHawk all-aluminium diesel engine, similar to the second-generation Thar off-roader. Gearbox options could include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with a rear-wheel-drivetrain as standard. A 4WD drivetrain is also likely to be offered as an option with several variants.

The next-gen Scorpio is likely to be launched by mid-2021. Except it to command a premium over the current model which retails from Rs 12.67 lakh to Rs 16.52 lakh (ex-showroom). Though it will be the only ladder frame SUV in the segment as the existing model but as per the price point, Mahindra will continue to put the Scorpio in opposition to compact SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti S-Cross, Renault Duster, and Nissan Kicks.
