In terms of equipment, the TRD Edition offered some additional features over the standard variant such as a 360-degree parking camera, auto-folding side mirrors (ORVM), and an illuminated scuff plate. The Fortuner TRD was powered by the 2.8-liter diesel engine (177PS/450Nm), mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It was offered with both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain options. The standard Toyota Fortuner also get a manual gearbox choice with the diesel engine as well as a 2.7-liter petrol engine option. The petrol unit comes with both 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options, but it misses out on the 4×4 drivetrain.

In the Indian market, the Toyota Fortuner TRD had a direct competition with the Ford Endeavour Sport, which is currently available for sale at Rs 35.10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
