BS6 Aprilia Strom 125 Gets A New Disc Brake Variant

Aprilia’s entry-level offering in the Indian market BS6 Storm 125 gets a more advanced braking system as the company has introduced a front disc brake variant of the scooter at Rs 91,321 (ex-showroom Pune). It demands a premium of Rs 23,000 (approx) over the previous BS4 compliant Drum brake variant. The launch was scheduled to take place earlier but eventually delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Piaggio unveiled the BS6 complaint update of its entire range of scooters at the Auto Expo 2020.

Booking amounts

Aprilia has set the booking token amount at a convincingly low price of Rs 1000 only, The bookings can be made through Aprilia’s official website. Benefits worth Rs 2,000 are up for grabs if the buyers choose to buy their favourite Vespa or Aprilia scooters online.

Features

Unfortunately, there is not a lot to talk about as far as feature list is concerned. It does not get a lot of bells and whistles but Aprilia has still given customary features like electric start, AHO, LED Taillamp, semi-digital instrumentation cluster and most importantly front disc brake.

Engine & Underpinnings

Like the SR 125, the Aprilia Storm 125 is also powered by a BS6 compliant 125cc engine. It churns out a power output of 9.5PS and a peak torque of 9.9Nm.

Suspension duties on the Storm 125 are being handled by telescopic forks at the front and monoshock at the rear. The updated braking system comprises of a 220 mm disc mated to a two-pot calliper and a drum brake at the rear. It gets CBS (Combined Braking System) as a standard safety feature.

How is it different from SR 125?

Storm 125 is basically SR 125 in colourful clothes, the paint scheme & tyres pattern differentiates it from the SR 125. It is offered with chunkier red and yellow colour paint schemes.

Author’s Take

Aprilia series of scooters have created a buzz owing to a great performance-centric personality. It does not have a direct competitor as such but locks horn against TVS NTorq 125.

Talking about the Storm, it genuinely seems to be overpriced. A premium of 23,000 over the Drum brake variant does come across as an inflated rise and will definitely not help the rather limited market share of Storm 125.
