Jeep introduced the 2022 Compass SUV with a mild-hybrid system in the UK dubbed as ‘Compass e-Hybrid’. This is in line with the brand’s plan towards electrification. Interestingly, the brand already has Compass 4xe plug-in-hybrid vehicle in its portfolio.
The Compass e-Hybrid gets a new 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine (130PS/240Nm) with a 48V mild-hybrid system, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). The e-Hybrid technology integrates a 15kW (20PS) electric motor producing 55Nm of torque.
The battery of this advanced mild-hybrid system can be charged via regenerative braking, and it allows pure electric propulsion in various driving conditions like during start-up, in stop & go conditions, at low speeds, when cruising, and in parking maneuvers. There’s also a belt starter generator for fast and silent transitions when restarting. However, all these capabilities are dependent on battery charge status and the power output required.
Jeep claims that this new powertrain offers up to 15 percent lower CO2Â emissions than the previous petrol models.
The American carmaker has priced the Compass e-Hybrid from £32,895 to £36,895 in the UK, which is roughly around Rs 33.20-37.23 lakh when converted to Indian rupees.
Jeep Compass e-Hybrid – Will it be launched in India?
While the brand hasn’t made any announcement regarding its India launch, it could make it to our shores in the coming years. As of now, Jeep India is gearing up to launch a Compass-based 7-seater seater SUV that will be known as ”Meridian”.
