The all-new Honda CBR650R has just landed on our shores. Priced at Rs 9,35,427 (ex-showroom Gurugram), the bike is Rs 47,427 more expensive than its previous version. Bookings for the super sportbike have been commenced at Honda’s premium BigWing dealerships across the country.

2022 Honda CBR650R – What’s New?

The new version of the CBR650R carries subtle cosmetic upgrades over the previous model that sweetens the aerodynamic & sporty pizzazz of the motorbike. That said, the 2022 Honda CBR650R now comes with fresh orange highlights for the Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic color option and new sporty black graphics with white highlights for the Grand Prix Red color variant.

Apart from these new ivories, the supersport motorcycle remains unchanged.

What powers the 2022 Honda CBR650R?

Powering Honda’s upgraded CBR650 is the same 648.72cc inline four-cylinder liquid-cooled mill as the previous model, kicking out a maximum power of 87PS at 12,000rpm and a peak torque of 57.5Nm at 8500rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheel via a 6-speed transmission, fitted with an assist-&-slipper clutch.

Underpinnings and Features

The 2022 Honda CBR650R uses an inverted Showa Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) unit up front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the back. Braking duties are taken care of by 310 mm front double discs with radial calipers, and single-piston caliper 220mm single disc brakes at the rear. Also available are traction control and a two-channel Antilock Braking System (ABS).

Other notable features of the 2022 Honda CBR650R include a negative LCD instrument cluster, an all-LED lighting system, a clear glass windshield, an engine immobilizer, and a USB Type-C charging port. It would have been better if Honda had equipped the bike with a TFT display with navigation support and electronics riding aids.

Honda CBR650R: Rivals

In the 650cc segment, the Honda CBR650R squares off against the Kawasaki Ninja 650 (Rs 6.68 lakh) and Aprilia RS 660 (Rs 13.39 lakh). However, pricing-wise, you could consider the more powerful and feature-packed Kawasaki Z900 (Rs 8.50 lakh), Triumph Street Triple R (Rs 9.15 lakh), and Triumph Scrambler 900 as its alternatives.
