The 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan is all set to make a comeback in November 2021, albeit in a facelifted avatar. Earlier, it was supposed to be launched by mid-2021, but the unexpected flood of COVID-19 cases in the country led the brand to delay its launch.
The pre-facelift version of the VW Tiguan (discontinued in April 2020) was a diesel-only model, whereas the facelifted Tiguan will come only with a petrol engine. That said, it will be propelled by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine kicking out 190PS and 320Nm. It will be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that will send the power to all four wheels via an all-wheel drivetrain.
In addition to the new petrol engine, the new Tiguan will also receive a host of cosmetical updates. For beginners, it will get a redesigned front facia, featuring a newly designed bumper and a cleaner three-slatted chrome grille that seamlessly blends into the dual-barrel LED matrix IQ headlamps. While the side profile of the SUV will remain largely unchanged (except for the revised 18-inch alloy wheels), the rear gets updated tail lamps and bumpers.
Changes on the inside will also be minimal. The 2021 VW Tiguan will get a new digital driver’s display, a redesigned steering wheel, a touch-based climate control panel and a 30-colour ambient lighting system. Besides, it will retain most of the features from its pre-facelift model that includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, connected car tech, panoramic sunroof, tri-zone climate control, cruise control, powered tailgate, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, slidable rear bench, six airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), hill start & descent assist, etc.
The facelifted Tiguan is likely to be priced between Rs 28 lakh to 32 lakh (ex-showroom). On its arrival, it will renew its rivalry with the premium mid-sized SUVs like Jeep Compass and Citroen C5 Aircross.
