2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift Revealed In India; Launch Expected Soon

Latest Update: – Volkswagen has pushed the launch of facelifted Tiguan to November 2021. Click here for more details.

The headline bulletin is filed with Volkswagen news today. Besides revealing the Volkswagen Taigun and commencing T-Roc's booking, the brand has also taken the wraps off from the facelifted Tiguan, which is likely to launch in the coming months. It will be sold alongside the Tiguan Allspace, which is a 7-seater version of this SUV. For the people not in know, the 5-seater Tiguan was discontinued last year during the BS6 transition phase.

Compared to the previous model, the facelifted Tiguan features a redesigned front facia, debuting Volkswagen’s new logo in our country. It also gets new dual-barrel LED matrix IQ headlamps and a three slatted chrome grille. The bumper has also been updated, featuring a triangular-shaped blacked-out element and a huge air intake. It also features front proximity sensors. One can also spot the absence of fog lamps, which is due to these new matrix headlamps that can dynamically bend and can even adapt to low visibility conditions.

The side profile looks largely similar to the pre-facelift model, retaining its elongated-boxy silhouette. However, for a refreshed feel, it comes with new 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear features refreshed LED tail-lamps with ‘TIGUAN’ lettering on the centre of the tailgate. It also sports a revised bumper with faux exhaust tips and a diffuser plate. Besides this, the brand will also introduce a new Night Shade Blue.

On the inside, it retains a similar dashboard layout as the older model. However, it gets a new digital driver’s display, a redesigned steering wheel, a touch-based climate control panel and a 30-colour ambient lighting system (instead of one in the pre-facelift model). The other notable features of the SUV includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, connected car tech, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, leather seats, 3-zone climate control, cruise control, powered tailgate, and many more. Safety will be covered by six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), hill start and descent assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, etc.

As far as the powertrain is concerned, the facelifted Tiguan will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine churning out 190PS and 320Nm. It will drive all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It won't get a diesel engine anymore.

The facelifted Tiguan is likely to demand a premium over its earlier price range of Rs 28.05 lakh to 31.44 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). Once launched, it will continue to rival the Jeep Compass and the upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross which is scheduled to be launched on 7th April 2021.
