Tata Altroz EV Spied Testing; Likely To Get Ziptron Powertrain

Tata Altroz EV has been spied testing once again, suggesting that it could hit the Indian market very soon. We expect Tata to launch it by end of this year.

For those who aren’t aware, the Tata Altroz EV was first displayed in a pre-production avatar at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and later at the 2020 Auto Expo. It looks largely similar to its ICE counterpart except for some EV-specific design tweaks, such as a differently styled front bumper, a different set of alloys, and blue inserts outside and inside the hatchback.

As far as the powertrain is concerned, we expect the carmaker to offer the Altroz EV with similar Ziptron technology as the existing Nexon EV, which comprises an IP67-certified 30.2kWh battery pack with a permanent magnet AC motor that has a performance rating of 129PS and 245Nm. Expect it to offer a claimed range of over 300 kilometers on a single charge.

Tata Altroz EV India launch

In the other news, Tata Motors is also gearing up to launch the longer-range version of the Nexon EV in the coming weeks. While it is not official, the brand could unveil it on April 29, 2022. If this happens, it will become Tata’s first offering under the newly launched dedicated subsidiary that is meant to supervise the development, sales, and after-sales service of the EVs.
