New Hyundai Bayon – All You Need To Know About

Hyundai has recently revealed the Bayon for the European market. It is essentially a cross-version of the third-generation i20 hatchback that will be positioned between the Kona and Tucson in Hyundai's portfolio. Here are five things you would like to know about this upcoming Hyundai crossover: –

Hyundai Bayon SUV

Hyundai Bayon – Exterior Design

The new Bayon follows Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy. While it is based on the i20 hatchback, its design hardly matches the new i20. In fact, its front end resembles the Kona SUV. It features a wide grille, split headlamp setup, and a vertical air intake on the front bumper which is integrated into the headlamp unit. Compare to the i20 hatch, it feels more upright and has plenty of cladding for a more rugged appearance. The only similarity with the i20 is its sharp character line and a black applique on the tail section. However, unlike the i20's Z units, it gets a unique arrow-shaped detailing in the taillamps.

Hyundai Bayon – Dimensions

Here’s a look at the Bayon dimensions up against the Indian-spec Hyundai i20 hatchback: –

Hyundai Bayon – Interior & Features

Hyundai Bayon features

Inside the cabin, it gets a similar dashboard design as the i20, albeit in a black-light grey scheme. It retains the large 10.25-inch floating infotainment system and 10.25-inch digital driver’s display from the Euro-spec Hyundai i20. Other highlights include the Audi-Esque faux AC vents, automatic AC, rear AC vents, multifunction steering wheel, BlueLink connected car technology, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wireless in lower trims), Bose premium sound system, ambient lighting, cruise control, electric sunroof, and SmartSense advanced safety features such as forward collision avoidance, lane keep assist, and leading vehicle departure alert, etc.

Hyundai Bayon specifications

Hyundai Bayon – Powertrain

The 2021 Bayon is offered with a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine in two states of tune: 100PS and 120PS. In both cases, the SI mill generates 172Nm of peak torque. It can also be had with a 48V mild-hybrid system to improve fuel efficiency. Transmission options, on the other hand, includes 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT). The Bayon also gets three driving modes (Eco, Normal, & Sport) that alter the engine and steering response accordingly.

Hyundai Bayon India launch date

Will Hyundai launch the Bayon in India?

There're no official words regarding this. But in our opinion, Hyundai is unlikely to launch the Bayon in India and the USA as the Korean maker already sells the Venue subcompact SUV in these markets. So, the Hyundai Bayon is expected to be limited to European markets only.
