According to a leaked Type Approval Certificate by ARAI, the Mahindra XUV700 will soon receive a new entry-level MX petrol-automatic variant. This will be the most affordable petrol-automatic variant of the SUV. Currently, the MX trim is only available with the manual gearbox.
At present, Mahindra offers the automatic gearbox in the AX3, AX5 and AX7 variants only, with prices starting at Rs 18.19 lakh (ex-showroom). The introduction of the new MX AT variant will significantly reduce the starting price of the XUV700 automatic. Currently, Mahindra retails the MX petrol-manual trim at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect its automatic trim to command a premium of roughly Rs 1.8 lakh over its manual counterpart.

Regarding features, we don’t anticipate any significant changes for the MX AT trim. It will continue to be equipped with essential features, such as follow-me-headlamps, tilt-adjustable steering, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto, a 7-inch instrument cluster, front centre armrest, power windows, powered side mirrors, ISOFIX anchors, dual-front airbags, and electronic stability control.
Powering the XUV700 petrol is a 2-litre turbocharged engine that makes 200PS and 380Nm and comes paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission that powers the front wheel of the SUV.
Mahindra also offers the XUV700 with diesel engine options, with both FWD and AWD drivetrain choices.
In the realm of the mid-size SUV segment, the XUV700 faces competition from the likes of Hyundai Creta/Alcazar, MG Hector/Hector Plus, and Tata Harrier/Safari.
