Honda City e:HEV – What’s Special?

Based on the 5th-generation Honda City, the hybrid sedan comes with the brand’s trademarked intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) powertrain, combining a 98PS/127 Nm 1.5-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine, a lithium-ion battery, and two electric motors, out of which the primary motor works as traction motor and delivers 109PS of maximum power and whopping torque of 253Nm. The secondary motor works as a starter-generator that sends power to the battery at the rear. Interestingly, it doesn’t get any transmission system (gearbox).

Honda claims that this latest version of the IC engine has a thermal efficiency of 40.5 percent, one of the highest figures within the auto industry for a production-spec car.

Honda City e:HEV driving modes

Honda has offered the City Hybrid (e:HEV) with three driving modes: Pure EV, Hybrid, and Engine. That said, the City hybrid can be driven in EV-only mode or a mix of both, depending on the speed. While the fuel efficiency of the Honda City e: HEV is yet to be revealed, it is expected to deliver a combined mileage of around 27.78kmpl.

The Honda City e:HEV is a self-charging car and so it doesn’t require any charging infrastructure.

Further ensuring safety and convenience are the new all-four disc brakes, electronic parking brakes with auto hold, and Honda’s innovative advanced technology called Honda CONNECT, which now comes with smartwatch compatibility as well. Besides, it continues to get up to 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, a lane-watch camera, hill start assist, tire pressure monitoring system, and much more.
